Sixty-eight of the latter group had received medicai care alter the trauma injury but the tetanus prophylaxis hadn't been correctly administered, só lhe patienls developpcd the disease. Most of these patients were men (65,0%) and 25,8% country workers. Feel and legs were the most frequent injury sities. Seveuty-four patients (45,4%) remained in the hospital for more than 15 days. The hospital infection rate was 34,3% especially with nosocomial pneumonias. The disease and/or its complications caused 31 deaths. Medicai carelessness with tetanus prophylaxis hás had serious results and this analysis of the problem is necessary for medicai atualization and feedback for preventive programs.porAcesso AbertoTétanoProfilaxiaTetanusProfilaxisArtigo
