However, shifts in the epidemiology of these diseases associated with modern life style, demand cons-tant revision of surveillance activities. In this manuscript we present the epidemiology, trends and dif-ferential diagnosis of the following compulsory notifiable diseases in Brazil: Aids, dengue fever, hanse-niasis, American tegumentary leishmaniasis, measles, rubella and congenital rubella syndrome and syp-hilis. Additionally, the current challenges for control and prevention of each disease are presented.porAcesso AbertoVigilância epidemiológicaBrasilDengueHanseníaseRubéolaSarampoSífilisSíndrome de imunodeficiência adquiridaSíndrome da rubéola congênitaSyphilisAcquired immunodeficiency syndromeBrazilDengueEpidemiologic surveillanceLeishmaniasis cutaneousLeprosyMeaslesRubellaRubella syndrome congenitalDoenças dermatológicas de notificação compulsória no BrasilDermatological diseases of compulsory notification in BrazilArtigo10.1590/S0365-05962011000500002
