The purpose of this study was to analyze in what extent popular beliefs and alternative resources utilization influence the solution of community health problems, as perceived by Family Health Program (PSF) professionals, as well as to identify how those professionals act when they meet clients that use such resources. This qualitative research has been accomplished at the Center for Integrated Health Care of the city of Amendoeiras, in Goiânia – GO, during the year of 2002. The analysis revealed the following categories: vantages and disadvantages; culture and tradition x habit changes; emphasis in the “natural”. The professionals demonstrated respect, acceptance, disapproval and interest in the knowledge about popular practices.
