These two cultures created resistance to the legitimation and development of the human sciences and, particularly, of the arts in the university. An analysis of these cultures, their process of development and influence on the organization of knowledge at the university are the focal points of this paper. The historical notion of ‘crisis’ as an identity crisis of science takes to a revision of concepts. The study discusses the notion of identity and how the two cultures marked, by difference and/or exclusion, the relations of power in science. Three concepts from the philosophy of science – capta, data and acta – are revisited and proposed as ways to reinvent art’s and science’s identities in the present context of the university culture.porAcesso AbertoConhecimentoArteCiênciaUniversidadeCulturaknowledgeArtScienceUniversityCultureArte e ciência: identidades culturaisArtigo10.5216/vis.v2i1.17889
