This question-title guides the present [inter]text excavating discursive reflections on "the forms of silence in the movement of the senses" (ORLANDI, 2018) about the work of the centenary carioca architect Sergio Bernardes (1919/2002), especially this emblematic project. An object of intense controversy in the architectural milieu at the time, the Monumento ao Pavilhão Nacional is understood here as a symbolic/discursive element, in a critical operation between the fields of architecture and discourse analysis (AD) of French origin.
