The greater susceptibility of the children has been established. This present work aims at assessing the encephalic parasitism in 10-day-old and 30-day-old Holtzman rats after infection whit low and high number of trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi. Male Holtzman rats whit 10-day-old and 30-day-old were inoculates whit 5 x 103 or 2,5 x 104 tripomastigotes of the Y strain of T. cruzi intraperitoneally. The animals were killed 13 days after inoculation under chloral hydrate perfused whit 4% phosphatebuffered paraformaldehyde. The fragments were processed for paraplast or glycolmethacrylate embedding. The paraplast sections were stained whit hematoxilina-eosin and resin section whit toluidine blue-orange C-erytrosin. Immunohistochemical were performed by using anti-T.cruzi serum obtained from T. cruzi-infected rabbit and a peroxidase conjugated-anti-rabbit IgG (Sigma). The encephalic parasitism was discrete in the infection whit 5 x 103 both 10-day-old and 30-day-old being revealed by sparse glial nodules. The inoculation of the 2,5 x 104 tripomastigotes/50g of body weight induced more intense encephalic parasitism in the group infected at day 10 of age. Encephalic areas devoid of blood brain barrier showed very low parasitism.porAcesso AbertoEncéfaloTrypanosoma cruziRatosBrainTrypanosoma cruziRatsParasitismo do encéfalo de ratos por Trypanosoma cruziParasitism of the Encephalo of Rats by Trypanosoma cruziArtigo10.5216/ref.v7i2.11863
