Without any major challenge to this theory, the work presents, through a critical-analytical procedure, the reflection that this concept of neomedievalism can be mutatis mutandisalso applied to areas in process of colonization, also without a proper medieval past. Based on this idea, the work investigates the chronicles of colonial Brazil as an ideological and politically mobilized appropriation of the medieval bestiary literary tradition with a view to purposes not only of teleological foundation but also promotional in material and spiritual utilitarian terms. The work recognizes this promotional purpose through a comparative analysis of the perception of the animal world of the medieval bestiary vis-à-vis its reuse in the chronicles of colonial Brazil.porAcesso AbertoAnimais medievaisCronística do Brazil colonialLeitura neomedievalistaMedieval animalsChronicles of colonial BrazilNeo-medievalist readingAnimais medievais e seus rastros no brasil colonial: uma proposta de leitura neomedievalistaMedieval animals and their traces in colonial Brazil: a neo-medieval reading proposalArtigo
