Resumo
With the purpose of describing the reading practices of housewives residing on Jardim
Goiás, a neighbourhood in the city of Goiânia, state of Goiás. Beyond presenting concepts
of reading, history of reading in Brazil and reading practices, this research sought to know
and analyse the memories these housewives had about reading, and investigating if they
show to have reading practices within their lives The types of reading practiced by them
were also analysed, among with understanding how was their access to reading, the
formation process of these habits, also understanding the significance and impact the
practice of reading has had on different moments of their lives. Within the goals listed
above, it has been confirmed that the housewives have reading practices and that this
interferes in a positive way on their family lives, achieving the purpose of this research.
