Resumo
Through historical analysis we realize that access to information was limited to a large
portion of society. Thus this paper addresses the design of the SESI Indútria do
Conhecimento, an initiative of the Serviço Social da Indústria, which aims to boost access to
reading and information. In this approach the research unit of Goiânia, in order to analyze the
contribution of this project for the democratization of information through access to reading.
We search for a theoretical framework that would address the issues around access to
information and reading practices in Brazil, which led the company now excluded. We stress
the importance of reading for the training of citizens and society. Thus, we did an interview
with the users of the unit Goiânia to know their opinion about the project, namely the changes
in ways of reading, the habit of reading and access to information, after contact with the
library of the Indústria do Conhecimento. We realized that the community served by the
project had significant results regarding aspects of research mentioned. We note that such
initiatives make a difference in Brazil, where reading is not explored.
