Resumo

326 immunofluorescence tests for toxoplasmasis in serum and cerebrospinal fluid were performed. Blood and cerebrospinal fluid were drawn at the same time, from patients at the Neurological CHnic of Goiânia-Goiás. 49,07 % of the serum tests gave positive reactions for dilutions of 1/1.024 or higher; 26,99% for dilutions of 1/16 to 1/256; 23,92% were negative. In cerebrospinal fluid 44,78% revealed negative results whereas 52,21% were positive in different concentrations: undiluted and in dilutions of 1/4, 1/16, 1/64 and 1/256. It is concluded that the indírect immunofluorescence test in indiluted cerebrospinal fluid should be included as a routine method for the investigation of toxoplasmosis. Results should be expressed as: Positive -l- to -l--l--l--l- depending on the intenstty of fluorescence.
