The histopathological lesions determined in isogenic C3H and B10 mice infected with T. cruzi strains isolated from naturally infected triatominae from four different localities of the Goiás State, Brasil, (Mambaí, Cabeceiras, Niquelândia and Taguatinga) were studied and compared with another strain from Rio Grande do Sul State. The several isolates from Goiás have been previously characterized according to their biological and biochemical behavior as Type II and zymodeme 2. Histopathological studies have shown similar tropism and tissue lesions for the four strains from Goiás. Cardiac lesions were predominant, with moderate diffuse mononuclear infíltration and myocardial cells parasitism. Skeletal muscle lesions were scarce or absent and macrophagotropism occurred only exceptionally. The lesions were identical for the two strains of mice being slightly more intense in C3H mice with the four T. cruzi studied strains. The strain from Rio Grande do Sul State, characterized as Type III, zymodeme l, determined skeletal muscle lesions and predominance of lesions in B10 mice. The present investigation confírms previous observations showing that the Type II strains are predominant in the central region of Brazil and this may be correlated with the Chagas disease manífestations in this área.
