Resumo
Pityriasis versicolor is a cosmopolite superficial fungai infection of the skin
caused by yeasts of Malassezia genus. Humans, after puberty, are more
susceptible to the manifestation of this disease, because of the lipophilic
characteristic of this rungus. In this study a retrospective report was
performed from January 1998 to December 1999 with 1,805 files from
patients that were attended in the mycology sector of a private laboratory in
Goiânia, GO/Brazil. In the group of patients with superficial mycosis, the
prevalence of pityriasis versicolor was of 17.0%. Most of the patients with
the disease were female, between 31 to 40 years old and dark colored skin.
They presented hypopigmented and furfuraceous lesions in the dorsal region
of the body. Hence pityriasis versicolor is still one of the relevant diseases,
among the superficial mycosis of human skin.
