Lagochilascariasis is a zoonosis and it is believed that wild felids are the definitive hosts of Lagochilascaris minor. Besides the man there are reports of natural infection by L. minor in domestic dogs and cats. Aiming to evaluate the behavior of the Felis catus domesticus as a possible reservoir of L. minor, 20 cats were individually inoculated with 50 larvae, in the 3rd stage, of L. minor obtained from experimentally infected mice. The evaluation of the infection was made during 180 days, by clinical exams and coproscopic examination and, finally, the necropsy of the animals. One hundred percent infectivity was observed. Fifteen animals presented, from the 15th day after infection, a positive parasitological exam of feces and maintained elimination of the eggs of the parasite until the end of the experiment. The other animals presented negative copoproscopic examinations and the infection was diagnosed by the presence of lesions containing the parasite. This work indicates the possibility of the domestic cat as a reservoir of L. minor and emphasizes the similarity of the pattern of infection between the domestic cat and man.
