Emprego da abraçadeira de náilon, do categute e do emasculador na hemostasia preventiva de ovariectomia em éguas

Resumo

The ovariectomy is used in the equine species for inhibiting the estrus, treating cysts, ovarian tumors, improving the animal´s performance and favoring the conviviality in group. In this procedure, it´s fundamental to perform the preventive hemostasy of the vessels from the ovarian pedicle to avoid the death of the animal due to hemorrhage. In this study, the efficacy of the nylon clamp was evaluated as an hemostatic method for ovariectomy in mares and the cost of the procedure was estimated, compared to the use of catgut and the emasculator. 18 equine females, without defined breed, clinically healthy, between 300 kg and 400 kg of corporal weight and between three and eight years of age were used. The animals were allotted in three groups of six animals each one (Fab, Fcg, Fem). The nylon clamp was used to proceed the hemostasy of the ovarian pedicle in the group Fab, catgut was employed in the group Fcg and the emasculator was used in the Fem group. The results were evaluated through clinical and hematological exams and possible occurrence of trans and postoperative complications. These three methods promoted satisfactory preventive hemostasy. However, the nylon clamp presented lower cost, and decreased the time of surgical procedure and no intercurrence in the postoperative period had been observed.
