Mastite bovina clínica e subclínica, na região de Pirassununga, SP: frequências e redução na produção

Resumo

The objective of the present survey was to verify the clinical (CM) and subclinical mastitis (SCM) frequencies, as well as estimating the losses in the milk yield due to SCM in 5 dairy herds in Pirassununga-SP-Brazil, and to apply a simple method to calculate the milk yield lost. In the period from September to November 2000, 799 mammary quarters, from 201 cows, were submitted to Tamis and California Mastitis Test (CMT). The mastitis frequencies in animals and quarters, to each herd, were obtained by the percentile ratio between the number of positives and the total number. The estimative of the percentage of losses in the milk yield lost were obtained through the total sum of the products between the percentage of affected quarters, as the reaction in the CMT, and values of the milk yield lost found in literature. The average frequencies of CM and SCM in animals were 7.46% and 63.68%, respectively. The percentage of reduction varied proportionally to the frequency of SCM, being 3.82% in the herd with lower frequency and 10.79% in that one with higher frequency. The results show the necessity of having a mastitis control program.
