Resumo
With the intention to discuss a little reality to the excessive use of pesticides in our country, this work is analyzed
a clipping from an account of experiences with pesticides from a former farm worker. From this analysis, we
present two goals. The first is to contextualize the rural worker and his rurality feature the imposition of
capitalism, against the requirement of using pesticides on their crops (or as an employee of rural landowners) in
order to obtain significant production of food for their own subsistence and also as a source of income. The
second objective is to reflect on the role of science and technology in our society, supporting curricular proposals
for Science Education, from the perspective of Motion / Focus STS (Science, Technology and Society), through
the study of issues socioscientific. The account of the respondent demonstrated the high degree of health risk
they are exposed farm workers who apply pesticides, both by the lack of guidance on the handling of the
product, as the very high toxicity they have.
