Resumo
ln an essay, carried out in 1997, the performance of an animal traction planter for direct drilling ofblack beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was evaluated. The experiment was carried out in a distrofic dark red oxisol in the experimental field ofthe Agronomy School of the Federal University of the State of Goiás, Brazil. Two leveis of mulching, three soil opener systems, and two coulter settings werecompared. None ofthetreatments met the agronomic requirements for the black bean direct drilling. Lower mass and density of cover crop residues resulted in better sced distribution and higher plant population. The system with coulter fitted in the depth limiting wheel favored deeper fertilizer and resulted in lower uncovered seed percentage. Double disc opener presented shallower depth of fertilizer and more uncovered seeds, carrying out a lower plant population.
