Resumo
This article aims to reflect upon the discursive textual representations about the
heteronormative masculinity through the idea of male celibacy. The principal
source of analysis is the Alencar's unfinished novel "Ex-Homem", published in
"The Protest" newspaper in serial format in late nineteenth century. "Ex-
Homem" discusses the issue of clerical celibacy and your critical - about the sex
interdiction to religious men - may reveal series of social, cultural and political
questions on gender representations produced at the time.
