Resumo
This paper explores ways to interpret the narrative visualities found in the work of film
director and artist Luiz Rosemberg Filho. The underlying hypothesis is that his films may be regarded as
visual collages inspired by montage editing, a principle of Russian filmmaking. In Rosemberg Filho's
visual writing, the aesthetic and political principles of montage editing are applied not to convey reality,
but to problematize the explanation that narrative cinema offers to society. Furthermore, this paper
examines the reading possibilities of his experimental filmmaking through the comparison of his artistic
collages and aesthetic choices shown in the 1976 film A$suntina das Américas.
