Caracterização de frutos e seleção de progênies de cagaiteiras (Eugenia dysenterica DC.)

Resumo

This study viewed to evaluate physical and chemical characteristics of fruits as well as to select progenies of Eugenia dysenterica plants growing in Goiania, state of Goiás, Brazil, during the crop year of 2011. The study took place in an area of the Faculty of Agronomy and Food Engineering of the Goias Federal University (EA/UFG) in which, in 1998, 440 individuals of cagaita had been planted. These plants were originated from several municipalities of the state of Goiás among which 40 plants were selected due to their precocity and high productivity and which were submitted to the following analyses : fruit and seeds mass, fruit height, fruit diameter, number and mass of seeds/fruit, peel and pulp mass, peel color, and pulp yield. Fruit soluble solids, pH, titratable acidity, moisture, ashes, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates were also determined. Cagaita fruits showed chemical and physical characteristics fit for industrialization and may thus be included in the list of regional foods capable of contributing for human alimentation. Cagaita progenies from the municipalities of Catalão, Três Ranchos, Luziânia, and Goiania were found to display the highest number of physical and chemical characteristics favoring fruit industrialization.
