Resumo
The present work analyzes the land use and the occupation evolution at the ·'Sapo" creek watershed, localized in the urban region of Jataí city, in the Goiás State, Brazil, during the period of 1965 to 2000, by means of remote sensing techniques and field works. ln 1965, the urban area in the watershed was three times smaller than in the year 2000. This occupation was not planned for and the area in the low land, belonging to the old part of the town, can be flooded in the raining season. We suggest that land use should be planned in arder to contrai tlood risk in the low parts of the watershed.
