Resumo
This work presents the Kalman filter as a tool to pre-processing spectrophotometric signals
in chemometric context. Initially the main concepts of the Kalman filter are introduced.
The Kalman filter is used with steel alloys samples. The filtered signal is used in the
multivariate calibration to construct a mathematical model with good predictive ability.
The filter efficiency is demonstrated using a data set obtained by an atomic emission plasma
with low resolution spectrophotometer to treat the problem of simultaneous determination
of Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni) and Iron (Fe). The
results show that the Kalman filter can be applied with advantages over other traditional
techniques shown in chemometrics as a moving average filter.
