Resumo

Toxoplasmosis in pregnancy is a disease of great concern in public health due to the risk of vertical transmission and to the possibility of causing severe lesions to those affected. Objectives: To evaluate pre-birth assistance offered in the basic health unitsin Vila Nova and Sevilha urban sectors (Tocantins), emphasizing toxoplasmosis in pregnancy and its risk factors. Methods: 111 pregnant females were evaluated, being 60 from Sevilhabasic health unit and 51 from basic health unit in v.6, n. 3, set/dez. 2014 UnirG, Gurupi, TO, BrasilVila Nova sector. Serology was used to assess the frequency of toxoplasmose. Data were entered in Epi-Info 3.3.2 program from which contingency tables were prepared to determine associations between variables using odds ratio. Results: 71 females or 63.96% were found to be chronically infected with toxoplasmosis (presence of IgG antibodies) associated with toxoplasma gondii. A relationship between toxoplasmosis contamination and the use of non-treated water was found and this relationship increased 2.5 times the chance or risk of contamination. The risk of eating home prepared sausage increased 2.2 times the risk of infection and those owning cats at home presented 7.1 times increased risk of infection with the parasite. Conclusions:The frequency of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women was high and was directly associated with intake of non-treated water, eatinghome made sausage and contact with cats.
