A suplementação de ácido fólico na prevenção de disfunções autonômicas cardíacas e de anomalias do tubo neural: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

Objective: Elaborate a systematic review that discuss the relation between the folate and congenital heart anomalies and neural tube defects, furthermore the evaluation of autonomic modulation and heart rate variability (HRV) in mother-child’s health. Methods: The PubMed, Scopus and SciELO databases were searched for observational studies published between 2009 and 2014 using the terms “Folic acid and cardiac anomalies and human”, “Folic acid and heart rate and pregnancy”, “Folic acid and cardiac autonomic”, “Folic acid and congenital and neural tube defects”. Results: There was 520 articles and 16 have been chosen, despise those articles that were duplicated or because of the exclusion criteria. The systematization of the studies highlights: i) folic acid and neural tube defects; ii) folic acid and cardiac anomalies and iii) folic acid and autonomic modulation. Conclusions: This systematic review also shows a preventive role of folic acid on heart disease and congenital neural tube. Points to a close relationship with the decrease in homocysteine levels acting in preventing cardiovascular disorders. Experimental studies are needed to elucidate the effects of folic acid supplementation on the autonomic dysfunctions heart mothers and neonates.
