Resumo
This paper analyzes the representations in indigenous colonial cartography. The proposed spatial area, Central Brazil, is necessary for match coverage area of research that has been discussing the cartographic representations of Indians Karajá and Javaé that are in their self‐designation Iny People living in the area of Rio Araguaia. As we begin the literature review and mapping was possible to see that historically indigenous references were being recorded, with relative inaccuracy, by colonial cartographer maps of this region and that period. Thus, aroused the interest of understanding how studied indigenous peoples were in the colonial period this region named in several ways: "Sertão", "land of the Gentiles", "Central Brazil", among others. In this period the Brazilian territorial formation goes through tense situations and conflict. The historical cartography allows its representations with the contextualization of dynamic spatial and sociocultural trainers’ ethnic groups of the population.
