Resumo
In this article we aim to discuss the notions of ‘word’, ‘theme’, ‘meaning’ and ‘concept’ in
Repensando o sincretismo, a book by Sérgio Ferretti (1995). The great diversity of meanings for
syncretism suggests that there are similar understandings as well as distinct, convergent and
divergent understandings of the same term in the same discursive formation. Our intention is to
understand syncretism as word in each stage of the study presented by Ferretti so that we can
determine the sets of statements that form syncretism as a concept, according to the theory proposed
by Bakhtin (2006), Fairclough (2001) and Foucault (2008a).
