Resumo
The present research reflects about the existence of bullying and cyberbullying in the school
environment, as well as its characteristics, consequences and possible strategies to be adopted in
the fight against those. The research was carried out through a qualitative, bibliographic inquiry
that uses theoretical sources as scientific articles, books, academic texts and Laws related to the
theme. The main authors who substantiated this research were: Coelho (2003; 2011), Fante (2005),
Fante and Pedra (2008), Maldonado (2011), Miranda (1989) and Silva (2010). In order to organize
the discussions about the theme, the study is divided in two chapters. The first one seeks not only
to understand how education and school environment are tools for human constitution and
socialization, but to comprehend how, among the aspects of socialization in school life, bullying
and cyberbullying take shape. In the second chapter, the consequences of bullying and
cyberbullying for all those involved in the phenomenon (victims, aggressor and bystanders) are
discussed, as well as the coping strategies for these events. It is understood that, despite the formal
nature of the school, its role doesn’t comprehend only the mere transfer of knowledge, extending
itself to building subjectiveness and the possibility of socialization of students in a less violent
school environment. The school and the family, as determining institutions for character building,
need to be vigilant to promote awareness strategies and preventive measures against bullying and
cyberbullying.
