Resumo
The microbial biomass is an indicator soil quality, and proportionally smaller fraction of the soil
organic C and it is a significant and potentially mineralizable N available to the plants., Therefore,
this study goals to determine the biomass and soil microbial activity in two management systems.
The experiment was conducted in organic production system in Fazendinha Agroecológica of
Embrapa Rice and Bean, located in Santo Antônio de Goiás, GO. The attributes evaluation related
to the quantity and activity of the soil (carbon and nitrogen in soil microbial biomass, basal
respiration and metabolic quotient) showed significant difference between soil management
systems. However, no significant differences between the soil coverage for some attributes
studied, only for the metabolic quotient.
