Resumo

The Bible is undoubtedly a work of great relevance to our imagination, regardless of what we think or believe about it. One of the proofs of this is that artists from different backgrounds have used different aspects of the Bible as a starting point for their artistic creations. This is the case of A Batalha do Apocalipse: da queda dos anjos aos crepúsculo do mundo by Eduardo Spohr (2007), which we have used as corpus of this Dissertation. The purpose of this work is to approach the Bible as a raw material for the creation of this novel. In view of the extension of the Bible as a whole, we chose to focus this work on the biblical myths rewritten by Spohr in his narrative. For this purpose, on the one hand, we will make a brief review of the Bible/Literature dialogue. This implies an incursion into the contemporary theoretical views of the question. Among the various scholars of the Bible as Literature and their dialogue with fictional works, we rely mainly on Northrop Frye and Robert Alter whose works were fundamental to the development of this Dissertation. On the other hand, to examine the dialogue of Spohr's work with the Bible, we will rely mainly on theories of intertextuality, particularly the quantitative transformations of Gérard Genette (1982), in Palimpsestes: la littérature au second degré. Furthermore, due to the fact that Eduardo Spohr is an author who, initially became known through the internet, we will discuss the possibilities — both of inspiration and of publication — made possible by the diversity of sources in the contemporary world. In addition, due to the confirmation of the great reception of his work by the readership, we will make a brief foray into the so-called "entertainment literature", more commonly referred to by the academic world as "mass literature".
