Resumo

Parasitary diseases are frequent amongst the world population and are responsible for a high morbidity and mortality especially in developing countries. The intestinal parasitosis are considered a public health problem especially where the basic sanitation conditions, personal hygiene and intellectual levels of the general population are precarious which enables the transmission of such diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of intestinal parasites diagnosed within the Gurupi city, estate of Tocantins during the period of 2012-2013. Also to relate the presence of intestinal parasites with the demographic characteristics among the different sectors of the city. This is a descriptive retrospective study with a quantitative approach performed through the analyses of medical charts. The inclusion criteria were the adequate fulfillment of charts and the patient being a dweller of the Gurupi city. A total of 10 thousand charts were analyzed but only 162 (1.62%) presented requests for parasitological examination of feces (PEF). From the 162 charts with PEF requests 39.5% presented positive results from which 92.65% showed protozoan infections: Entamoeba coli (32.8%), Endolimax nana (26.5%), Giardia lamblia (31.2%), E. histolytica (1.6%). From the positive results 7.35% showed helminth infections: Ascarislumbricoides (1.6%) andAncilostomids (4.7%). Three cases (4.8%) of co-infection were found: G. lamblia / E. coli; G. lamblia / A. lumbricoidesand E. coli/E. histolytica. Women (65.6%) and the population under the age of 30 (85.93%) were the most afflicted. The basic unit of health with the greater prevalence of enteroparasites was Casego. Therefore, it concludes that the parasite more EPF is detected in E. coli, affecting mainly women and youth. Therefore we believe that preventive measures are necessary within the city as well as better instructions for PEF solicitations.
