Our exam of the notarial registers of manumission certificate seizes these documents as the main interpretative resource on the procedure of manumitting. Furthermore, we seek to perceive the forms and practices that involved conflicts and negotiation strategies from the beginning until the sealing of agreements submit by the slave masters and enslaves. Yet, with the configuration of an important population of freedmen, we will consider the possibilities of social and economic inclusion of these manumitted subjects, given the socially-based hierarchies.
