Considering the pictorial and Anglo-American tradition of sea representation, and the dialogue between contemporary oceanic perspectives and and the fields of postcolonial literature, the philosophy of landscape, art history and visual culture, I investigate the works of Caspar David Friedrich, J. M. W. Turner, Drexciya, The Otolith Group and Ellen Gallagher.
