The research also has the intention of characterize the changes in the fatty acid profile of each species and its influence on the properties of the produced biodiesel. The development of the cultures was accompanied by cell counts and by "in vivo" fluorescence analyses and the fatty acid composition of biomass were determined by GC-MS. The results showed a potential use for biodiesel production in Pediastrum tetras, Scenedesmus acuminatus, Chlamydomonas sp., Lagerheimia longiseta, Amphora sp., Monoraphidium contortum, Chlorella sp. and Cosmarium sp.
