The city of Salvador is scrutinized from the point of view of Gonçalo, a black boy who is born free but is arbitrarily enslaved by the authorities of his time, and also from the point of view of a narrator who is situated in 1995, the “Three Hundredth Year of Zumbi dos Palmares’ Struggle”. Thus, this work aims to analyze the mishaps of the two narrators of the novel, both marked by the stigma of racial prejudice.
