In this sense, it aimed to analyze the development of the city under three fundamental aspects: the territorial breakdown, the population dynamics and the growth of the urban network. For this, the period of urban consolidation proved to be a good method of analyzing city transformations. Thus, we sought to diagnose the historical growth process of the urban fabric and its current situation. Census data, historical documents and bibliographic consultations were handled. In addition, remote sensing images were processed and techniques used in Geographic Information Systems - GIS in the elaboration of cartographic products aimed at spatio-temporal analysis.
