Numerosas investigaciones intentan identificarlos y categorizarlos mostrando su origen sensorial, cultural y/o escolar. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar los Modelos Mentales (MMs) sobre el Sistema Solar desarrollados por 23 alumnos del 7º año de la enseñanza básica de una escuela pública municipal. La metodología utilizada fue círculos de conversación y representaciones pictóricas de los estudiantes antes y después de la lectura del libro infantil “El Sistema Solar en la Clase de la Profesora Zulema”. A partir de la información obtenida antes y después, se construyó un cuadro de modelos que varían según algunas peculiaridades; algunos más sencillos y algunos más complejos. Se encontró que, después de leer, hubo algunos cambios en la forma en la que los estudiantes piensan sobre la composición del Sistema Solar y el orden de los planetas. Los resultados muestran que el uso del libro puede influir en la reelaboración de los MMs, ofreciendo elementos (visuales y escritos) que colaboraron en esta construcción, pero que no pueden ser considerados como fuente única para el aprendizaje.The models of the Solar System that students bring to mind are incomplete and unique to each individual. Numerous investigations try to identify and categorize them showing their sensory, cultural, and/or school origin. The objective of this work is to present the Mental Models (MMs) about the Solar System developed by 23 students of the 7th grade of Junior High School of a municipal public school. The methodology used was conversation circles and pictorial representations of the students before and after reading the children's book "The Solar System in Professor Zulema's Class". From the information obtained before and after, a chart of models was built that vary according to some peculiarities; some simpler and some more complex. It was found that, after reading, there were some changes in the way students think about the composition of the Solar System and the order of the planets.
