Although social housing programs represent a significant advancement, they are often implemented on the outskirts of cities, contributing to the process of peripheralization. In Goiânia, in addition to these issues, there is a growing depopulation of the city center, where there are not only many properties available for rent but also a significant number of vacant buildings. In light of this scenario, this study aims to propose the reuse of one of these buildings for social housing purposes, in a way that is less harmful to the environment and enables the integration of residents into a strategic area equipped with consolidated urban infrastructure. The methodology adopted is based on a bibliographic review of the subject, covering the history of social housing in Brazil and in Goiânia, a study of the city center with a quantitative survey of unoccupied buildings, analyses of the intervention site, and the development of a needs program to support the architectural project. The search for case studies related to building requalification helps to build references that connect the two main thematic axes: social housing and intervention in pre-existing structures.
