The objective is to demonstrate that these changes occurred in accordance with the socioscientific standards for treating mental disorders prevalent in each era. The conclusion is that the psychosocial care model established by Law No. 10,216/2001, and especially its directive on exceptional hospitalization, should guide the monitoring of psychiatric hospitalization so that it can truly exercise control over this type of treatment. The research is bibliographical and focuses on legislation and scientific articles addressing the topic.
