These recurring events are directly linked to a combination of historical, geographical and urban factors. These include the inappropriate choice of the site where the city was originally established, the disorganized urban growth over the years that has made the situation even worse, and the morphology of the region marked by the presence of hills and mountains around the urban core, which favor the rapid flow of rainwater towards the river. These natural elements, coupled with the lack of adequate drainage infrastructure, make Goiás particularly susceptible to flooding. Throughout history, major floods have been recorded in 1782, 1839 and 2001. The latter, in particular, had a significant impact on both the social aspect and the city's historical heritage, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions. Given this scenario, this research proposes an analysis of the feasibility of implementing a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) as a possible solution to mitigate the impacts of flooding in Goiás.
