Resumo

One of the main pillars of efficient and quality college education is made of teacher that are well prepared and committed to turn students into professionals that are capable of facing the Market. Given that, there are no teachers without students, it is important for the teachinglearning relation that the expectations and satisfaction of the students are fulfilled, when related to teacher. This study had the goal to analyze the perception of students of Accounting about their professors’ competences. The method of research was quantitative, descriptive, classified as a survey. The research instrument was a questionnaire using the attitude scale, which was adapted to a scale that goes from 0 to 10, that measured expectations and satisfaction of the students about the competences of the Accounting major teachers. The instrument is made with 14 individual and relevant competences for the college professors. The research took place in two public universities in the state of Goiás, with a total of answers of 181 questionnaires. The research shows that the competences that the students expect the most from their professors are: ethics, planning and commitment, and what they expect the least is team work and creativity. The competences that the students were more satisfied about were ethics, interpersonal relationships and knowledge about the field of study. On the other hand, the competences they are the least satisfied about are team work and creativity. About the contributions of the results of this research, the main one is knowing what the students expect and how satisfied they are about their professor competences, which leads to a diagnoses of the situation and actions that universities and the professors must take. Studying the education itself and also its level of quality contributes to help the area to get better and to the progress of the society in general.
