Resumo

Water losses in water distribution systems are usually high, and generate thus environmental or economic impacts due to mainly an inefficient management by the water utilities. This issue requires the adoption of best practices that improve the operation of water supply systems managed by these companies. A powerful tool that can be used for this purpose is the hydraulic modelling of water distribution networks. Once calibrated, the water supply system model can generate practical information and data to assist in the diagnosis of the system as well as to reduce water losses. This study focus on assessing leakage losses by means of the hydraulic model calibration applied to the sector Parque Santa Rita – Zona Alta, located in the city of Goiânia, GO. The software EPANET was used for the hydraulic simulations and the inverse problem was solved by the Genetic Algorithms method (GAs). The developed model reproduced satisfactorily the hydraulic behaviour of the water network since the calibration resulted in good agreement, and it has been determined low rates of leakage losses for the entire sector. However, it has been shown in this study that the normal distribution of nodal demands does not reproduce the hydraulic behaviour of the water distribution network.
