Resumo
This paper presents a historical overview of activities and projects undertaken by the Brazilian Mathematical Society in the period 1969-2011. We also point out some questions that can guide research on its history. The Brazilian Mathematical Society is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro and among its actions we can name: the encouragement of good quality education at all levels, production and dissemination of mathematical texts (books and periodicals), the promotion of scientific meetings and the encouragement of regular exchange between professionals of mathematics in Brazil and abroad.
