Resumo
This article arose from the need to build an operation model that provides scientific
support to technological and qualitative evaluation of environmental risks. The definition
of risk and how to empirically operationalize this concept was initially outlined. The way
that people think and behave in risk situations is one of the most important things in
environmental risk operationalization. The models that operationalize the environmental
risk concept was discussed and compared with the theory of modernity risk. This case
study shows how risk perception and evaluation is different between the scientific
community and the public.
