Resumo

Based on the biography of Malcolm X, one of the greatest black rights leaders in the United States, our general objective is to show that through reading, a black man who began his life in crime and was arrested, was able to re-signify his identity through reading. This identity resignification refers to the total change in Malcolm X's life during incarceration and post-incarceration after his contact with reading within a Prison Library. A black body, with its intellectual capacity discredited from childhood by an elementary school teacher, Malcolm made the streets of his school and in this vulnerability gap entered the world of crime and did not take long to be arrested. After a time in prison, he became a frequent user of the Library and saw in reading an opportunity to rebuild his life. With reference to the life of Malcolm X, the provision of reading practices within the Prison System directed at black prisoners is necessary for them to understand the importance of the re-signification of their social identity, the historical importance and the powerful race to which they belong . Such literary practices are also important in the formation of these black men, seen socially as a body arm and without intellectual intelligence. The methodology used in the elaboration of this work was the Biographical, where the life history of an individual was analyzed and taken as an absolute truth, where it was sought to associate the biographical singularity of Malcolm X with global aspects such as racism and prejudice against the incarcerated. Lastly, this distance between education and the black man is the result of a racist society that seeks to keep it away from education and reading it to bring it closer, as it will help the detainee to readapt the world out of prison in a context of re-socialization, as was Malcolm X.
