Resumo

This work had as objective the construction and the evaluation of a slow filter in scale laboratorial used sands and non‐woven synthetic fabrics seeking the water treatment for rural communities small using for this, simple materials and of low cost. The slow filter was built using a cylindrical tube of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) height of 1000 mm, diameter of 150 mm. The thickness of the filtering material was constituted of a sand 400 mm layer ollowed by breaks 100 mm. Among the described layers and in the top nonwoven synthetic fabrics were used with 400 g/m2 grammage. The filtration rate adopted during the experiments it was of 3m3/m2.dia. In the slow filter efficiency evaluation the following parameters were used: color, pH, turbidity, total phenols and consumed oxygen (CO) seeking the monitoring of the water of a pond inside of the Campus‐ Center of Agrarian Sciences (CCA‐UFSCAR). The principal found results were: pH value 7,0 ±0,07, 90% of turbidity reduction, 50% of coloration reduction, 50% of organic matter reduction and it was not detected concentrations of phenols. In agreement with the accomplished analyses, in the period of four months, it was evidenced that the sample in study shows in good conditions, getting to accomplish the important minerals cycle and slow filter built demonstrates efficiency in the polishing of the pond in study.
