Resumo

This paper develops an analysis regarding the conditions for the exercise of news casting as a profession in the Jornal Noroeste, on the Sinaloa’s state, in Mexico’s northwestern region, where press professionals have been victims of threats and abuse supposedly perpetrated by criminal organizations that have ties with the drug trade business and its forking on the state bureaucracy. Having as a starting point that news casting is an essential activity for the maintenance of the Democratic State and that its main goal is to provide citizens with true information that is of the public interest, the paper encapsulates interviews with journalists and data collected with class defense entities in Mexico and points to how, even understanding journalism as being a high risk activity in this region, the professionals try to adapt to keep on practicing the profession. The analysis’ goal is to diagnose how press professionals of this medium understand and justify their professional activity.
