Resumo
From an unconventional historicity, the present work sought to highlight the modern project of silencing madness and the incongruity of a diagnostic rationality about it. For this mission, we base our trajectory on the reading of two classics. The first refers to Machado de Assis' "O Alienista", which focuses on the establishment of the first asylums in Brazil, linked to an idea of biased modernity. The madman is imprisoned, not to be treated, but because he is a symbol of poverty and social misery and, therefore, unworthy of citizenship. In “History of Madness”, we seek to recapitulate the different experiences that madness has experienced since the Renaissance until it was perceived as a mental illness. production of this knowledge that came associated with practices of domination and control. In addition, we seek to elucidate the contradictions of the insertion of psychiatry both in Europe and in Brazil, such as the emergence of psychoanalysis in this scenario of a positivist medicine and how the Freudian ideas were appropriated, in reverse, in Brazilian territory.
