Resumo

This study aimed to evaluate the development of Holstein-Zebu receiving initial concentrate with increasing levels of soybean hulls for their use in raising systems. The treatments consisted of four levels of soybean hulls in the concentrate (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) from the fifth day of age. Besides the concentrate, the animals received four liters of milk replacer per day. The experiment was developed at the Federal Institute of Goiás - Campus Rio Verde - GO, from August to November 2011. It was used six calves per treatment from three to 59 days of age, with initial weight of 36.80 ± 2.99 kg. The experimental design was completely randomized, with the variables analyzed as split plot and regression to verify the behavior of variables. It was evaluated the concentrate feed intake, feed conversion, growth rate, body length, thoracic perimeter, height of the withers, body condition score and body temperature from 14 to 14 days. The concentrate intake was evaluated daily. The performance of experimental period lasted 56 days. At the 57th days of the experiment (60 days old) five animals were slaughtered from each treatment to assess the members and non-members of the carcass. Five calves also were slaughtered with a day of life (animals reference). The experimental design was completely randomized. The means were compared by the Tukey test (α = 0.05) and regression to verify the behavior of variables. The diets did not affect (P <0.05) the performance of the animals, the same happened with the members and nommembers parts of the carcass. The average concentrate consumption was 371 ± 60.9 g, and 935 ± 132.5 g at 8th weeks, indicating that they would be able to be weanlings. There was significant effect (P <0.01) in concentrate intake during the weeks. The average daily gain weight was 352 g for a feed conversion of 2.1 kg of total dry matter consumed per kg daily gain. The average of the growth rate, thoracic perimeter, and height of the withers was 0.91 cm, 1.22 cm and 1.10 cm / week, respectively. The average cold carcass yield was 49.57%. The percentage values of the rumen-reticulum (RU-RE), omasum (OM) and abomasum (AB) from the animals slaughtered in relation of the empty weight were respectively 61.69%, 15.58% and 22.73. The rumen-reticulum growth in respect of animals with a day of life was 410% or 4.1 times. The relative volume RU-RE, and OM AB was 65.56%, 3.03% and 31.27%, respectively. The soybean hull is an alternative for infants fed to calves since they do not affect their performance
