Resumo

Valsartan with metal ions Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were prepared in solid state. The compounds were obtained from the direct reaction between an aqueous solution of valsartan and the respective metal ion aqueous solution. The compounds were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction pattern, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and by thermoanalytical techniques: simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), and evolved gas analysis (EGA) by infrared spectroscopy (EGA: TG-FTIR). The results allowed to suggest the minimal molecular formula of the compounds and steps of thermal decomposition as MnVal.4H2O (5 steps), FeVal.1H2O, CuVal.0,7H2O and ZnVal.2H2O (4 steps), CoVal.2,5H2O and NiVal.2H2O (3 steps) as well as unreported information about its thermal stability and formed residues. The EGA results allowed to identify the aliphatic hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and ammonia for both Valsartan and metals compounds as the main gaseous products generated from the thermal decomposition o the synthesized compounds.. Through the analysis of the absorption bands in the IR spectra it was possible to suggest that the coordination between Val and the metal ions occurs in the oxygen atom of the carboxylate, confirmed by the absence of the C=O band of the carboxylic acid and in the nitrogen of the tetrazole group confirmed by the bands displacements in the region concerning the stretches and deformations of the tetrazole group.The thermal and spectroscopic evaluation suggests the formation of new chemical compounds whose stoichiometry is 1: 1 (metal-ligant). The X-ray powder diffractograms, obtained from both Val and the synthesized compounds suggested that the compounds didn´t present crystallinity.
