Dissertação (Mestrado em Educação Física) - Faculdade de Educação Física e Dança, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, 2025.https://repositorio.bc.ufg.br/tede/handle/tede/14792This dissertation aims to analyze, based on national scientific production, the challenges, contributions, and strategies that characterize the work of Physical Education Professionals (PEPs) in the field of mental health, especially in the context of Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS), in light of the principles of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform. This is a monographic study of a qualitative nature, grounded in an integrative literature review with content analysis following Bardin's methodological approach. The databases SciELO, Google Scholar, CAPES, and PubMed were consulted using descriptors such as “Physical Education,” “CAPS,” “Body Practices,” and “Mental Health,” resulting in the selection of 37 studies published between 2002 and 2023. The analysis identified three central thematic axes: body practices and interventions in CAPS; perceptions of users, family members, and the multidisciplinary team; and the evaluation of the effects of physical activities in psychosocial care. The findings show that the inclusion of PEPs in CAPS, although not yet mandatory by current regulations, represents a promising strategy for promoting care in freedom, favoring psychosocial rehabilitation, the construction of bonds, the valorization of practices, and the expansion of autonomy for users in psychological distress. However, structural, educational, and institutional limitations persist, hindering the consolidation of this practice as an effective component of public mental health policy.
